Geological summary
Aneityum Island, also known as Anatom or Anetchom, is a 17-km-wide oval-shaped island SE of Tanna Island and is the southernmost of the Vanuatu Islands chain. Aneityum consists of two coalescing, dominantly basaltic Pleistocene volcanoes. Both the NW side of Inrerow Atamwan volcano and the SE side of Nanawarez volcano are truncated by large erosional cirques. Volcanic activity ceased during the late Pleistocene to Holocene (Carney and Macfarlane, 1979).

Weekly volcanic activity reports
Smithsonian/USGS weekly reports are selective and preliminary. They are not a comprehensive list of all eruptions or volcanic activity.
No weekly report appears on this page. Absence from the weekly report does not establish an absence of volcanic activity.
Historical catalogue records
Eruption history
Dates can be approximate, incomplete, or BCE. These are historical catalogue observations, not a statement about present activity.
No historical eruption records appear on this page.
